
As a police officer, I became acutely aware of the revolving door for criminals. I'd watch the cycle time and time again; the police would spend a lot of time, effort, and resources catching criminals, and the courts and corrections would just release them back into the wild. It was like pouring water into a leaking bucket. Businesses make the same mistake also. A lot of effort goes into catching customers, but then somehow, customer retention falls by the wayside. This is particularly painful early in the customer journey, where you've already paid the costs to acquire a customer but haven't yet had the opportunity to get a return on that investment. Stopping churn comes down to three things: 1. An understanding of who the customer is. 2. An understanding of what they are trying to accomplish. 3. A tenacious and unending pursuit of delivering value. Do these things, and customers stay. Don't, and they leave.
