I'm a writer, creator, and speaker. I've written professionally for more than a decade, and have experience in a variety of media. I've focused on the intersection of language and technology, which was always interesting, but has recently become... a hot topic, let's say. Here are some professional and creative highlights: 📖 I co-authored a book on ethical leadership with Mike Erwin. It's called "Leadership Is a Relationship: How to Put People First in the Digital World", and it's available everywhere from Wiley in hardcover, ebook, and audiobook. More on that in the next section of this LinkedIn page—just scroll down. 🧑‍💻 I work with a variety of clients through my agency, Will Digital. I help organizations use language and design to clarify their purpose, articulate that purpose to the public, and create useful experiences for the people they serve. I'm especially interested in democratizing knowledge by translating the intimidating and arcane details of important topics—like healthcare, finance, and government services—into easily understood, actionable advice. Before striking out to build a practice, I built my chops in the industry on the in-house product design staffs of Google, Airbnb, and Gusto. ✍️ I write fiction, essays, and poetry. I'm currently working on a book about becoming a parent. 🏛️ I'm spending more energy putting my professional skills to work in civic life. I now serve on the City of South Portland's Public Arts Committee and two advisory councils at our region's leading children's hospital. 🏗️ I recently earned an AAS degree in construction technology at Southern Maine Community College, where I continue taking coursework in architectural and engineering design. 🎓 I have an MA and BA with honors and distinction from Stanford University, where I studied English (with a creative writing emphasis), wrote an honors thesis on the political consequences of allegorical form in the work of Herman Melville, took a minor in analytic philosophy, and spent a term studying contemporary political philosophy one-on-one with a tutor at Oxford while associated with Oxford's Corpus Christi College and Stanford House.
