"You handled the whole opportunity in a very mature way. And the point you made, that's super sophisticated thinking." "I really appreciate you setting up the RSVP links for our department. It's a lot faster and more streamlined, you've really made things more efficient!" "Reading through the bookmarked PDF, Stanley, I am so aware how much work has gone onto this report. I want to thank you for your energy and attention to detail. You are enterprising, so bright, and a joy to work with." "Thank you SO much for looking into this and your very gracious and thoughtful response." I have an MA in History from UBC, Vancouver. I am skilled in coordinating events and projects, conducting interviews, leading discussions, and writing for a diverse audience. My MA thesis is about the 1969 racial riots in Kuala Lumpur. 2020-23: I worked at the Chinese Canadian Museum (CCM) in Vancouver. In this role, I led tours in English and Mandarin, coordinated the volunteer program, and delivered school programs. I also worked as an educator at the Museum of Vancouver and Vancouver Art Gallery. I help my community through volunteering: I was a board member of the UBC St. John's College Dining Society (a non-profit). I also provide consultancy for anyone interested in modern Southeast Asia. I was a Program Coordinator for the UBC Centre for Southeast Asia Research (CSEAR) and a research assistant (RA) on a Chinese Heritage Project at the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. I graduated from Trinity College, University of Toronto (UofT) with an Hons. B.A. with high distinction (Double Major in International Relations and History, and a minor in Contemporary Asian Studies). I also led 20 Trinity peer advisors, and volunteered as the academic director of a UofT Model UN club. During my 4 years at UofT, I won several model UN conference awards, and wrote event reports, op-eds, and research pieces for student clubs at UofT. I enjoy being involved in documentary film projects. I was a production coordinator, researcher, and interviewer with Dynastic Entertainment Inc. on a documentary about Vancouver's Chinatown titled, "Clash on Keefer" (released in 2021). In 2024, I translated two documentaries from English to Chinese for the Paper Trail exhibition at CCM. Let's connect if we share interests! I am passionate about strategic planning, research, teaching, outreach, communications, public scholarship, history, and advocacy. My history work focuses on memory, heritage, inequality, belonging, and identity. Contact me on LinkedIn or email me at stanley.chia@ubc.ca
