I am an engineering leader, technologist, educator and lifelong New Yorker who recently relocated to New Haven, CT. My leadership style is open, flexible and inclusive, and I strive to lead by example by modeling best practices for my team. I believe in unleashing the latent creativity in my staff and have a strong track record for hiring diverse engineers who are smart, can get things done, and who contribute significant value to the organization. After almost twenty years working in higher education, mental health, and startups I approach mentoring seriously, and believe that organizations have a responsibility to mentor their employees and encourage continual professional development. In addition to 20+ years as an open-source software developer, I also have extensive experience managing projects and programmers. I am an active free/open source contributor and my technical interests include Algorithmic Fairness, Collaboration, GNU/Linux, Python, Content and Learning Management, Digital Video and Annotations. I love to bike ride, scuba dive, make things, take pictures, read/write non-fiction, travel, watch films, listen to music and play the bass.
