Tenured Professor & Ex-Head of AI R&D | 70+ Patents | Expert in Lifelong, Multimodal, & Medical AI

As a tenured professor at the University of Rochester, I have published 90+ peer-reviewed papers on continual learning, foundation models, multimodal perception, bias mitigation, and neuro-inspired AI, and I hold 70+ issued U.S. patents. My lab’s mission is to develop human-level AGI, and my formal training in computer science, machine learning, and cognitive neuroscience enables me to ground each roadmap in how people actually learn. Beyond academia, I build AI systems that span the entire journey, from groundbreaking research to FDA clearance and enterprise deployment. For three years, I was an executive at Paige, where I directed AI R&D, created Paige Prostate 1.0—the first FDA-cleared pathology AI—and grew the AI team from three to forty engineers and scientists while crafting the IP strategy that grew the company’s valuation. On campus, I have co-founded and led interdisciplinary AI centers. I have developed courses on how to turn AI models into products, where I teach MLOps, software engineering for large-scale ML systems, multi-GPU training, foundation-model creation, and data-centric AI. Alumni from my group have gone on to AI leadership and research roles at Georgia Tech, Adobe, Amazon AGI, the U.S. Space Force, SRI International, and more.
