Joel is a tinkerer in the payments industry.
Professionally, he helps people move money across the world and within, and has a wide range of experience working with global payment / remittance providers and systems in the region. This includes North Asia and APAC, hard-to-reach areas. He is also familiar with bank integration, static and dynamic Virtual Account (VA) processing, card processing, batch transfers (ACH-style payments), as well as integrating with alternate payment methods (APMs) such as QR codes, E-wallets, etc. He witnessed integrating these first-hand, being the first engineering hire at Rapyd APAC.
Having coded since age 10, Joel's passion lies in bringing ideas together with code. His range of experiences include being flown-in to hack at the 2019 run of the Facebook F8 Hackathon (held annually at San Jose), participating and winning 2nd at the Singapore Airlines App Challenge Hackathon, and while in college, contributing to Open Source for course credit, being part of Facebook's App Academy program held Menlo Park.
Joel has a background in the aviation industry, having worked at Singapore Airlines as a Software Engineer. During his tenure, he founded a Makerspace which encouraged tinkering with ideas. It birthed the mobile wallet, KrisPay. Being part of the pioneering development team, he has worked on overhauling the Boarding Pass and Check-In systems backend codebase, and oversaw logistics for the 2017 rendition of the App Challenge Hackathon, which he is thankful for.
