As a venture capitalist, public board member, and professor of entrepreneurship at Princeton University, Joy Marcus is committed to creating both value and positive change. She co-founded The 98 to invest in tech-enabled women-led businesses, changing the dynamics of venture investing while realizing high returns for her investors. Joy is also a mentor supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs. Joy has been a change agent in launching and growing digital businesses within large legacy companies and transforming small digital companies into profitable enterprises. As EVP and General Manager of Digital Video at Condé Nast Entertainment, overseeing twenty properties, including Vogue, The New Yorker, and Vanity Fair, she led a newly formed division to triple-digit year-on-year growth and first-time profitability. Joy was on the management team that took BarnesandNoble.com public (~$2.2B valuation). She led French video site Dailymotion to its sale to Orange (France Telecom) for ~$200M. An early digital media leader, Joy served in senior roles at Time Warner and MTV Networks. She also spent three years as a Managing Director and Venture Partner at Gotham Ventures, a Draper Fisher Jurvetson network fund. An active and experienced Board Director, Joy is on the board of publicly listed ad tech conglomerate Perion (NASD: PERI), where she chairs the Compensation Committee and serves on the Audit and Nominating & Governance Committees. She is Board Chair of private equity-backed Muso (a content data company with clients that include Sony Pictures and NBCU), Board Director at private equity-backed BBC Maestro (a UK-based Masterclass competitor), Board Director at Qwire (a music technology company where she served as Board Chair), and Board Observer/Investor for both Stratyfy (a fintech SaaS company) and Strella Biotech (a food supply chain platform). For her achievements in building future-ready businesses that challenge the status quo, Joy was named to The Hollywood Reporter’s Digital Power 50, Forbes’ Forty over Forty, Crain’s A Woman to Watch, and A Woman of Power and Influence by the National Organization for Women (NOW).
