I started my career on Capitol Hill working for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. After a year on the Hill, I made the move to technology. It was a radical change, but the opportunity was too good to pass up. So, I went for it and it resulted in the best move I ever made!
I started at the help desk General Electric (GE); blessed to be part of a large company, I immediately sought out mentors. Retraining myself for a career in technology, I learned the term “networking” wasn’t just something you did to find a job for the next congressional session; rather, it would become the foundation of what I do today at Cisco.
Being curious and wanting to know how things work has served me well. As I moved through the ranks at GE, I was able to find my true passions – technology and working with people – AKA sales! The technical team at GE thought I was crazy for making the to move to sales, but I found my calling talking with customers about day to day projects, helping their preparation for technology shifts and working through business problems.
