HomePlate Ventures is my vehicle for various investments and advisory services. Prior to HomePlate, I was a general partner at Canaan Partners, an early-stage institutional venture capital firm, until late 2020. While at Canaan I focused on financial technology, e-commerce, and marketplaces. Before my time in venture, I was the CEO of venture-backed e-commerce company Shopping.com leading it from zero to over $100mm in revenues in just 5 years, culminating in an IPO in 2004 and subsequent sale to eBay in 2005. At that time I moved into venture capital, where 4 of my investments had either IPOs (Borderfree and Lending Club) or strategic exits (Shopkeep and Adap.tv) of over $500mm each. In addition to serving on the board of directors of public boards Lending Club and Borderfree (where I was also independent Chairman), I've also served on over 20 other boards, both private and public. Additional public board of director positions include Primedia (formerly NYSE: PRM), VistaPrint (formerly NASDAQ: VPRT), and Corel (formerly NASDAQ: CREL), as well as Shopping.com (formerly NASDAQ: SHOP), where I also served as CEO and Chairman. I currently serve on the board of Kraken, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, as well as with two other early-stage startups focused on the e-commerce and AI product spaces respectively. I continue to advise - and greatly enjoy - working with many incredible entrepreneurs, as they try to navigate the adrenaline-fueled, amazing, yet sometimes hazardous journey from early-stage to a highly successful company at scale.
