I am an UXR / HCI researcher for AI research and products. Some highlights about me: - 5 years of Sr. UXR experience at Meta, 4 years at the AI research org FAIR. I’ve worked on numerous FAIR AI models and Meta’s AI products, and helped establish UXR function for AI labs. Multiple HCI publications while there (see below). - PhD in Computer Science (focus on HCI and HRI) from UC Santa Cruz. 8 years of academic research in total. 6 PhD internships done in grad school, at Spotify, Google, LinkedIn, and eBay with papers and a patent from these works. My MSc was focused on social robotics. - I have a passion, expertise and relevant experience in conducting foundational research on new interaction paradigms with AI. As an example, Spotify’s AI DJ product was my internship project, which I prototyped myself and did user studies on. - I am also an expert on interactive agents (virtual, robotics, sociable, co-creative, collaborative, etc.). I helped shape Meta’s AI agent UX strategy (from FAIR to GenAI and RL) and frequently review for relevant academic conferences.

Dominic Perella

•

Dom Perella is a longtime executive at high-profile companies in AI (Character AI) and social media (Snap). Prior to that, he was Partner in an international law firm and an award-winning advocate in the U.S. Supreme Court. Dom currently is Chief Legal Officer & SVP-Global Affairs at Character AI, an AI entertainment app and research platform that leads the B2C AI space in engagement. Character was named Google Play AI App of Year in 2023. Dom previously was Senior Vice President & General Counsel at Branch, a $4B Series F tech company based in Palo Alto. Prior that that, Dom spent seven years as Vice President, Deputy General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer at Snap. He oversaw Litigation, IP, Regulatory, Compliance, and ESG for Snap and was a member of the Global Leadership Team. He served as a key partner on Snap’s IPO preparation. The compliance function he built was named U.S. Compliance Program of the Year in 2022. Prior to Snap, Dom was a Partner in the Supreme Court & Appellate Litigation practice at Hogan Lovells US LLP, representing Fortune 500 companies in the U.S. Supreme Court and counseling them on telecoms, media, and complex regulatory issues. He argued and won Comptroller v. Wynne, 135 S. Ct. 1787 (2015), in the Supreme Court, and wrote the winning briefs in many other high-court cases. In 2014, the National Law Journal named Dom to its "40 Under 40" list of Rising Stars. It wrote: "When it comes to capturing the attention of U.S. Supreme Court justices, Dominic Perella of Hogan Lovells has a magic touch. In the past three years, Perella has written winning briefs in five U.S. Supreme Court cases." Dom graduated summa cum laude from NYU School of Law. He clerked for the Hon. Sandra L. Lynch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Dom lives in Southern California with his wife and three kids. In his spare time, he serves as an advisor to tech startups, coaches youth soccer, and volunteers at nonprofits including A Sense of Home and Willing Hands.

Early in my career, I founded and grew two software startups, one of which exited with a 6x return to investors. At Instacart, I led the consumer product marketing team responsible for our membership program Instacart+ as well as the broader value pillar and product partnerships. Currently, I serve as Head of Consumer Marketing for Character.AI. Recently, I co-founded Demand, a newsletter focused on bringing transparency around how marketing actually works at technology companies.
