It is a fascinating time in our history for robots. While stationary robots have been in factories for decades, we are at the dawn of mobile robots walking into our daily lives: at school, at work, and eventually in our homes. I joined Boston Dynamics to fulfill my lifelong ambition of commercializing robots, and possibly creating companion robots that are lovable creatures that enrich our daily lives. Today, Boston Dynamics creates mobile robots that can walk, run, autonomously navigate complex environments, and understand the world around them. I joined Boston Dynamics in 2021 to lead the commercialization and go-to-market initiatives for our existing robots (our humanoid robot Atlas, our logistics robot Stretch, and our industrial inspection robot Spot). All three Embodied AI robots will have a profound impact on verticals such as Enterprise Asset Management, Warehouse Logistics, and Automotive Manufacturing. Commercializing products into new markets has been a cornerstone in my career. It combines five activities I am passionate about: Social Business Development Consensus building Creative Problem Solving Building + Selling Companies Connecting People with New Technology Early in my career I founded two prominent mobile companies at a time when American consumers were not using mobile phones on a regular basis. Together, with amazing teams we created the first set of products that were meant to engage consumers on-the-go. This led to a career in advertising technology, and (with a little luck,) placed me in the right place at the right time a few times, and ultimately landed me at Google. Over the years I have often held the title of Chief Strategy Officer. In this role I have been hyper-focused on Company Strategy, Internal Coordination, and Key Account Development. My approach to Key Account Development is to create large transformational deals to drive informed product decisions and thereby nudging companies to fulfill their destiny. Almost a decade at Google has honed my large company coordination skills, and my ability to navigate cross functional environments and matrix organizations. Creative, fast-learning aerospace/software engineer with a wide breadth of experience. I love creating things, tackling difficult problems, architecting solutions, and striving for what I believe: a better world through technology. I've developed applications and major backend cloud infrastructure, led teams of engineers, overhauled old systems to new, passed federal cybersecurity audits, worked extensively with customers and debugged issues in real time, created optimal control systems, and modeled and programmed 3D graphics, among many other things. Having worked with many programming languages, development environments, frameworks, libraries and platforms, the tools at hand cease to be a limitation. Whatever is best-suited for the project, I will pick up and utilize. Rather, the project, its vision, challenges and goals are what drive me. Of course, despite all that I have gained through my career, there is still ever more to learn and do. Gotta keep moving forward.
