Eric Lee is a Senior Biological Scientist at the Government Accountability Office (GAO), where he supports the U.S. Congress by providing timely and relevant technology assessments on emerging topics in biotechnology and health. With over two years of experience in this role, he has developed policy options for Congress that identified potential opportunities for policymakers to support technology development, streamline regulatory practices, and improve health outcomes. Prior to joining GAO, he was a AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S. Agency for International Development, where he managed grants and helped develop a strategy for the Research Hub. He has a technical background in microbiology, engineering biology, and cell & gene therapies, as evidenced by his PhD in Infectious Diseases & Immunity from UC Berkeley, his postdoctoral research at the Engineering Biology Research Consortium, and his publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is passionate about advancing innovation in engineering biology, enabling technology transfer between academia and industry, and bridging the gap between science and policy.
