I am a user experience visionary, ideator, change leader, culture builder, craftsperson, and tireless optimist. I’m passionate about applying user-centered design methods to build digital solutions that empower and delight users and drive business results. I believe in applying a user journey and systems-thinking approach to design while grounding the solutions in measurable outcomes. I have a proven track record of designing experiences for a broad range of consumer and enterprise applications and tools across mobile, web, desktop, wearable, voice-based, and ML/AI platforms. I am experienced in recruiting, scaling, and optimizing UX teams, and evolving UX methods and design tooling. I’m currently the VP and Head of Design at CVS Health, a Fortune-6 company, leading an extremely talented UX design, research, content, and accessibility team of over 400 responsible for providing digital experiences focused on improving health outcomes for over 100M people. Our meaningful work supports digital-first, technology-forward solutions for 9000+ retail pharmacies, Caremark pharmacy benefits, Aetna healthcare benefits, CVS Mail Order and Specialty pharmacies, and HealthSpire care delivery offerings. Previously, as the first VP of UX at Charles Schwab I established the UX process and scaled the team from 5 to 250+, building UX design, UX Research, and Content Design teams from the ground up and with a collaborative culture. I led the design of numerous award-winning digital experiences and industry firsts. Working in a highly regulated industry for a demanding user base, we designed clear, easy-to-use experiences from highly complex, time-sensitive data, connected to extremely complex brokerage backends. Prior to Schwab, I co-founded Thread Experience, a boutique UX design agency that crafted innovative digital experiences for companies including VMware, TIBCO, Sony, Wells Fargo, SAP, Blue Shield, and PLoS. At Digitas, the largest digital agency in Europe, I worked in multiple European countries and conducted business in multiple languages for clients including Ford, Adidas, Barclaycard, Boots, and Kraft. I am a respected industry thought leader and speaker, having presented at numerous industry conferences including the AIGA, Finnovate, McKinsey Design Leaders Conference, the Federal Reserve Bank, and the Reuters fintech conference. I have also been a regular speaker at the Stanford D School and the Cornell Johnson School of Business. I hold multiple design patents.

Bernie Youngblood got his start in finance, but would soon pivot to the arena of sales and marketing - a tour that would include a series of entrepreneurial ventures. He's launched national marketing programs, executed corporate spin-offs, built boot-strap start-ups, and kick-started an international distribution organization. He's been recognized as a subject matter expert in a variety of fields, and worked with the Fortune 500 as a management consultant. Never being one to follow the rules, Bernie's redefined the way companies, and in one case, an entire industry, view - and market - their products. It was during this time, when he was invited to join his first non-profit board, that the seeds for his second career pivot were planted.
