
Timothy Tau Hsieh (謝韜 or Hsieh Tau) is an Associate Law Professor at OCU Law and a Registered Patent Attorney. He has over 20 years of experience in IP law, antitrust/competition, tech and entertainment law and teaches IP, Patent, Antitrust, Administrative, Sports & Entertainment Law, LegReg, and emerging tech courses on AI, Blockchain, NFTs, Crypto, & Web 3.0. He also researches & writes scholarship on Tech, IP, Antitrust, Sports & Entertainment Law & Policy, was EIC of the Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society - the country's oldest IP journal frequently cited by SCOTUS Justices - and has authored and directed award-winning fiction and films under his penname Timothy Tau. Before the USPTO, he practiced as an IP, tech, antitrust & entertainment litigator and patent & TM prosecutor at top AmLaw 100 law firms, representing clients in complex IP, tech, antitrust & entertainment disputes. He also was a judicial law clerk for federal judges in the USDCs for the EDTX, DNJ, NDCA & WDOK, gaining valuable insights into federal trial litigation, the judicial process and decision-making. His mission is to advance the knowledge and practice of tech, antitrust, entertainment & IP law, especially patent law, and to contribute to the innovation and development of new technologies and industries. He is passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of lawyers, scholars, and leaders, and is always eager to learn from and collaborate with his peers and colleagues. Prof. Hsieh holds a JD from UC Law SF, an LLB from the University of London, an LLM from Berkeley Law (Law & Tech Certificate), an MS in Electrical Engineering from UCLA, and a BS in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from UC Berkeley. He is also pursuing a PhD in Interdisciplinary Engineering from Texas A&M, an online MS in Comp. Sci. from Georgia Tech, and has taken IP courses from GWU Law.
