Life has many challenges and for many, we are not readily prepared. While this does not mean our natural responses can't move us forward, I’ve found that learning from those with experience can greatly improve outcomes. I’ve realized the value in people from a young age. No matter what I was involved in, (school, sports, relationships) I always wanted to learn from those who have done what I want to do, or experienced what I was about to go through. Identifying those people and then implementing their advice has allowed me to prepare for potential obstacles as well as gain perspective that I would not have had otherwise. This led to my development in ice hockey, saving money on college, personal development, wealth development, and countless other examples. An area I've found passion in as a result of these perspectives has been the Agile world. After exposure to some work in the IT space, I immediately gravitated toward it. Having a background in mechanical engineering was a bonus for cultivating the analytical thought process to blend into my transition to IT. Applying servant leadership as a scrum master has been a powerful experience. Working with Agile, Kanban, Scrum and Scrumban, I've learned the importance of delivering value in effective and efficient ways, while maintaining the important relationships that have been developed. Agile, and specifically scrum, is a unique mindset since it can be used to develop technology, teams, organizations, or even our own lives. It is definitely here to stay. Through learning from hard working, extraordinary people in many areas of life, I have developed a passion to help others be successful too. Coaching at my high school was an early example of a chance I had to return the favor. Giving back is what it’s all about. I believe this quote sums it up nicely, “Success is not measured in the amount of dollars you make, but the amount of lives you impact.” Feel free to reach out if there’s any area you seek to improve and would like some guidance. I may or may not be able to help you personally, but I can help steer you in the right direction or find the right person to help.
