During an intense summer game of rollerblade street hockey, a random car rolled up and a stranger asked if we knew of any older kids wanting a paper route in the area. Despite his chuckles at the idea, and after overcoming my parents concerns for their 10 year old, I started delivering newspapers in the sometimes dark snowy mornings familiar to IL. My customers were residents of retirement homes and assisted living facilities. My father agreed to assist so long as I saved 50% of the income to be used when I was an adult. Always fascinated by the concepts of personal finance, I remember taking my dad’s old textbooks on investing and reading them hoping to discover hidden knowledge. It should have come as no surprise that I ended up building a career helping people navigate the transitions of life. While no doubt planning for tomorrow is important, life is happening now and I believe strongly in living the adventure to its fullest. When you choose to take control and be intentional about the future, you give yourself freedom to start living today. I’m happiest when spending quality time with my family and friends. I always have a big adventure planned, usually involving travel, mountains, trail running, foreign lands or a distant culture. Sharing these adventures with those closest to me are some of my most valued treasures. I enjoy connecting with great people and working together to solve challenges. In a world where its so easy to be connected strangers via social media, it’s more fun to be connected acquaintances.
