I am Director of the Robot Intelligence Lab (http://www.imperial.ac.uk/robot-intelligence/) at Imperial College London (UK). I am also a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Robotics at the Dyson School of Design Engineering. Previously, I was a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at King's College London (UK). Before that, I was a Research Team Leader (equiv. to Assistant Prof.) at the Advanced Robotics department of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genoa, Italy. I do research at the intersection of Machine Learning and Robotics. My main research was on reinforcement learning algorithms for intelligent robot control. I have more than 7 years work experience in software companies. In 2008, I worked in Google (Japan) for 3 months as a software engineer in the Search Quality team. I created a prototype of a new search query processing system using machine learning algorithms. In 2005, I received my MSc degree in Artificial Intelligence from Sofia University, at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics. In 2006, shortly before coming to Japan, I successfully defended my second MSc degree in Bio- and Medical Informatics. My goal is to combine knowledge from different scientific fields in order to achieve synergistic effect and be able to tackle very complex problems.
