Despite being a software engineer, writing code is not my passion. Helping people is what drives me to write code. After years in college of tutoring and helping students, I immediately found a role in the workplace where I am able to both write code and help people. I spent nearly 2 years at AWS as a software development engineer where I was able to develop a tool that made the lives of other engineers significantly easier. I would even have the luxury of spending one-on-one time with engineers using our product so I could help them troubleshoot or hear their opinions on what could work better that would make it easier to use in the long term. I have since moved to OSI, a systems company working directly with utility companies, where I'm able to continue helping people by working directly or indirectly with utility companies to fix various defects in code and provide new features for them to make their lives easier. I hope to move to a management-style position in the near future, where I believe I'll feel fulfilled working as a servant leader, able to both help people on my team while also solving problems at a higher level.
