Mike’s work historically focuses on engineering decentralized and emergent sociotechnical systems composed of large numbers of decision-making agents. He has published original research on a wide variety of complex systems, from mathematical modeling of human affect dynamics to the design of multi-agent artificial intelligence systems. This path of inquiry has led Mike to study public blockchains, where decentralized decisions lead to the emergence of trust over untrusted infrastructure, and web3, which leverages this trust to enable value to be captured by those who contribute to its creation.
