Hi there! Thanks for checking out my page. I am a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY32423) and organizational consultant. Drawing on my experience in clinical and behavioral science, I help organizations address the "people" part of work: communication, team bonding and collaboration, trust and transparency, effective leadership, motivation and engagement, and emotional wellness. My work integrates purposeful play (e.g., applied improv) with other skills-based experiential practices (e.g., deep listening) and space for collective processing and problem solving. I offer workshops, retreats, and executive coaching and consulting. Prior to my consulting work, I served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, where I provided clinical care, teaching, and supervision in the psychiatry residency program. As a psychologist, I am trained in health psychology (the intersection of mental and physical health), and academically have published several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on mindfulness and mind-body health. I am also the founder of a class called "Zen-prov!," which uses improv to help cultivate life's most essential skills including mindfulness, self-compassion, and self-confidence. Our classes are oriented towards personal growth and held in a supportive group atmosphere (zen-improv.com). Creativity and social impact are vital to my professional work. I host the podcast, "The Middle Way with Dr. Matthew Goodman," which examines social/political issues through the lens of our interconnectedness/common humanity. My film, "On the Path: Meditation, Spirituality, and the Dark Night of the Soul" dissects the challenges of meditation and spiritual practice through a scientific and spiritual framework. I am the author of "Simple Stress-Reduction: Easy and Effective Practices for Kids, Teens, and Adults" and write a "Conscious Business" column for Inc. Magazine.
