Passionate software engineer with broad experience, vast knowledge, spider sense and human kindness. I’m a seasoned software architect, technical lead and project lead. I've spent the last 4 years leading a very complex re-engineering initiative at the heart of Yelp's commerce platform. My work included identifying problems of strategic importance to the business, building coalitions of many teams across the org to address them, creating a technical vision and strategy, designing and documenting target architecture, assuring a safe migration path for all stakeholders, building roadmaps and leading their execution as a technical leader of a dedicated team created to address this imposing challenge. My specialization is business software; main areas of domain knowledge: e-commerce, customer data, analytics, security. I’m a practitioner of Domain Driven Design, which puts emphasis on building robust, expressive domain models at the heart of a software solution. My technical expertise is in system architecture, API design, back-end development, databases and data processing, but I have also worked in full-stack roles, which included web and mobile app web-views. My past experiences also include some desktop and mobile app development and some hobby game development as well. I bring focus on continuous product development and making projects create value early on; ability to strike a balance between high quality software engineering and pragmatic prototyping. I have exceptional creativity and problem solving skills - helpful for anything from removing obstacles to building a grand vision for the team. I am renowned for eagle eye for bugs and risks, threats and opportunities alike, excellent code review, design review and mentoring skills - I have mentored many technical leaders at Yelp. I have over 15 years of experience working in various distributed teams and for various remote clients. This includes teams largely scattered across many time zones like the US, Canada, England and Germany, as well as largely scattered in a region like Ukraine, Poland and Germany. This also includes one year of work as a sole remote team member for a team located 8 time zones away in San Francisco and being a tech lead for teams that had to account for one remote team member and adjusting their communication accordingly. I also enjoy in-office work and work travel as well, but clearly prefer the hybrid model. After work I enjoy hackathons, making and playing video games, playing board games, drawing, travel, long walks and riding a bike, books, good food, film and music.
