I love solving hard problems. Every problem solver has a toolbox and a few favorite tools. One of my favorite tools is “synthesis”; in problem solving this usually involves taking two seemingly conflicting constraints and finding a way to generalize them into a powerful comprehensive solution. I’ve had the opportunity to apply my unique toolbox to a wide variety of hard problems in the design and implementation of user-interfaces, web services, programming and query languages, frameworks and runtimes, and software performance. The problems to be solved are never just technical; the business context of software development is of critical importance to any project. The interplay of business context and technology goals is always invigorating and challenging, and I relish the opportunity to contribute to the process.
