GRID Logistics Inc. SuperDocks will service the Ultra-large container ships now deploying 18,000+ TEUs. Opportunities to redesign ports (not terminals) is key to modernizing container ports at strategic locations where container volumes are highest. Key is to load and unload these vessels at several times the velocity of today's conventional ship-to-shore operations. This require all the links in the supply chain to be improved simultaneously to avoid the inevitable choke-points either upstream or downstream of the increased freight velocity. Seven years of research and design has produced one of the container terminal industries most popular systems. Infrastructure to design these new container moving platforms would develop the most ambitious freight transportation infrastructure projects in the history of the container shipping industry.
