DIRECTOR AND A SEASONED CANCER BIOLOGIST ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As an accomplished scientist whose work spans both academic and biotech sectors, I enjoy all things biomedical, from bench science exploring how complex disease processes such as cancer arise, to mining and analyzing research data to better understand disease mechanisms and drug responses, and finally, to helping direct and guide programs of research for interventional drug therapies and diagnostics. In academia, I was the amongst the first to use modern mouse technology to determine how genetic and pharmacological inhibition of the CDK4 cell cycle kinase affects the formation of glioblastoma, highlighting the clinical utility of targeting this enzyme as a viable drug therapy for brain tumors. In the biotechnology arena, I took a novel biomarker assay and by maximizing substrate usage, substantially improved its ability to detect exfoliated cancer cells in biological specimens. This work was critical to the award of a provisional patent for the technology. My experience as a Director coming through Senior Scientist, along with my extensive portfolio of manuscripts, successful grant applications, and presentations in different research arenas make me ideally suited to contribute to research and data analysis processes.
