Investing at Evidenced
I spend my time working on things that matter. I am currently focused on helping organizations who are fundamentally changing health and health care scale and succeed through our early-stage venture fund, Evidenced Capital. Most recently, I was SVP of Technology, Innovation, and Modernization at the Centene Corporation, where I led the effort to build a new operating model for how the organization made investments in a technology-driven future. Prior to Centene, I worked at Kaiser Permanente, where I served as a Managing Director of the KP Venture Fund and led work to reimagine care delivery from the perspective of a Medicaid population. At KPV, we raised our fifth fund and I made several investments in leading early-stage companies. Prior to KP, I was the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, where my job was to bring new ideas and perspectives to the work of the Foundation, and challenge the existing processes and assumptions that are in place to help build a Culture of Health more effectively. For three years starting in 2012, I was the Chief Technology Officer for the US Department of Health and Human Services, focusing on leveraging the power of technology, data, and culture change to fundamentally shift the health and human services ecosystems. Among other things, I founded the HHS IDEA Lab, focused on driving concepts of innovation through government. Prior to HHS, I worked for Governor Martin O’Malley in Maryland as the country’s first public sector Chief Innovation Officer. We focused on embedding the concepts of organizational innovation into the DNA of state government in order to accelerate progress on the Governor’s 15 strategic goals. My work in the public sector started in 2009, as the Chief Information Officer/Chief Technology Officer for the District of Columbia under Mayor Adrian Fenty. We created a technology infrastructure that enhanced communication between the District’s residents and their government, and implemented organizational reforms that improved efficiency, program controls, and customer service. In 1997, I co-founded an enterprise software company called InQuira. Our mission was to use technology to help connect people in real-time to the information they needed from the Global Fortune 1000 organizations they were interacting with. We were acquired in 2012 by Oracle.
