Award-winning software & digital media pioneer. Featured in numerous media publications for his insights on digital media economies, architecture, distribution, file-sharing, communities& social networks, piracy, copyright, and intellectual property, including; Wired, Time, Maclean’s, Saturday Night, Yahoo! Internet Life, Shift, Vice, Macworld and Silicon Alley Reporter. Presented at dozens of conferences, including the International New Media Festival, Digital Coast Reporter, MB5 New Media Visionaries, IBC, NAB, Comdex, KMDI, nextMEDIA, DemoCamp, BarCamp, SXSW, MacWorld, iWorld, and XmediaLab. As CTO for Independent World Television, was instrumental in determining the company’s digital strategy. He Produced the New Media Business Alliance’s 2006 iSummit in Toronto, introducing emerging trends in digital media. As Emerging Technology and Digital Distribution Analyst to the CBC, played a key role in identifying & developing a cost-effective national bandwidth peering infrastructure; establishing the CBC’s VoD services; and prototyped Ambient Television initiatives. A founding volunteer of wirelesstoronto.ca; an active participant of the Barcamp movement; and longstanding member of the CFC Media Lab’s technical advisory council and IdeaBoost Mentor. Past projects include p2p content distribution models, digital video & media streaming models, terminal & network computing, online communities & social networks, bots, xmlTV, metadata visualization, knowledge management systems, semantic analysis, machine learning (ML), A.I., RTB real-time bidding; SEO, Ad optimization, peer networking, public broadband & wireless infrastructures, spatial computing, 360 content creation & distribution and decentralized communications systems.
