Hello everyone, my name is Raymond Santiago. I am a student first, a healthcare professional, a program leader, and an avid community volunteer. Currently, I am working towards earning a degree in nursing to become a Registered Nurse. As an Emergency Medical Technician and Emergency Department Technician, I have had the rewarding experience of working with patients from all walks of life. Many of these patients could be in emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual distress and I have the privilege and responsibility of aiding these individuals as they transition into better health or their next stages of life. My small but critical role in monitoring and stabilizing patients during transportation to hospitals, nursing homes, or residences has also taught me how to effectively communicate with people and perform calmly under stressful situations. My involvement in assisting nurses, physicians, and the trauma team has matured me as an individual and has given me a different perspective on life as a whole. I love working in healthcare because there is no limit to what you can learn which drives me to further pursue a career in this field. My experience as an after-school and recreational program leader has allowed me to work with many individuals that range from different ages, parents, and children, with unique socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds from the Bay Area to the Sacramento Area. I have grown confidence in leading large and small groups, whether it be teaching a student math in the classroom or coaching a basketball team fundamentals in a gym. Planning, organizing, and supervising activities and events are also skills that I have gained during my time with the City of San Ramon, Arcade Creek Recreation and Park, and the YMCA. As someone who has participated in these programs in their youth, I can assure you that these programs have played a significant and positive role in my life, further engaging me with my community on a more intimate level.
