Northern Water and its Municipal Subdistrict provide water to Northeastern Colorado. | Since 1937, Northern Water has built a solid reputation of planning for and developing water supplies to more than 1 million people throughout our boundaries. We were created to contract with the federal government to build the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, and today we continue on our early mission of collecting water west of the Continental Divide and delivering it to Northeastern Colorado for agricultural, municipal, domestic, industrial and environmental uses. We expanded our water portfolio when Northern Water’s Municipal Subdistrict was formed in 1970 by six municipalities to build and operate the Windy Gap Project.
