Daphne Joyce Wu

•

Daphne Joyce Wu is a Midwest-born, second-generation Chinese-American studying Film & Media Studies and Economics at Yale University. As the eldest daughter of Sichuan immigrants, Daphne is passionate about amplifying minority voices through writing, theatre, and filmmaking. Daphne has interned at UTA, Paramount, ACE Entertainment, Toluca Pictures, Gracie Films and Lionsgate, where she contributed to audience development, production, script coverage. She worked in creative marketing for the feature film “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” where her TikTok content garnered over half a million views. She directed the annual Yale Symphony Orchestra Halloween Show and produced award-winning senior theses. Her directorial projects, Black Coffee, The Very Sad Tale of Gerald Humm (Ezra Stiles Golden Moose Winner), Heartbreak Avenue (Nassau Film Festival Honorable Mention), and Yin Yang (SIFF Semifinalist), explore themes of identity, relationships, and social justice. She is a fellow at The Gotham, HieronyVision x Film Independent, Emma Bowen Foundation, and T. Howard Foundation. Daphne has directed and edited content for nonprofits and arts organizations. Daphne served as President of the Yale Cinematic Productions and Internal President of the Yale Undergraduate Legal Aid Association. She has interned for U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro and Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers. In high school, Daphne founded the MHS Green Team and non-profit Dane County Youth Environmental Committee. She served on the City of Middleton Sustainability Committee for four years and interned for Sustain Dane and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Daphne petitioned a sustainability resolution through the Middleton Cross-Plains Area School District board, reaching 100% renewable energy by 2035 and reducing waste by 35% by 2025. For her commitment to public service, she was awarded the U.S. Gold Congressional Medal, U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award, and Wisconsin Association for Environmental Educators' Student of the Year. She has been featured in the Wisconsin State Journal, The Cap Times, and Wisconsin Natural Resources Magazine. She was interviewed by Channel 3000, 92.7 FM, and Environmental Law Institute. Daphne ranked #1 by the Wisconsin Academic Excellence Award with 18 AP credits. She was President of her school's DECA and FBLA and was awarded 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholar.
