I'm an analytic problem solver who loves the clarity of thinking that working with a program demands. I have experience building single page apps in Rails, JavaScript, React and HTML/CSS. As a student of math and philosophy, I've found the blend of careful logical reasoning and creative problem solving that coding provides to be a deeply satisfying continuation of my lifelong passions. Bringing a fully fledged app into existence as part of a collaborative, communicative team excites me greatly.

I previously worked for eleven years as a data scientist and analyst. Before that, I earned a Ph.D. in planetary geoscience, studying climate processes on Mars. Through my educational and professional background, I’ve developed expertise in a wide variety of analytical, modeling, and statistical methods. I particularly enjoy product, marketing, and financial analytics, dashboarding, and KPI development and tracking (business health monitoring). I have a passion for data visualization. I've been a moderator for http://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/ and I had a dataviz blog (http://vizual-statistix.tumblr.com/ - no longer working on this). My graphics have been published in books (e.g., The Best American Infographics), magazines (e.g., Wired), and on news sites, including: Washington Post, Huffington Post, City Lab, Flowing Data, Business Insider, Daily Mail, Slate, Gizmodo, Deadspin, and io9. I spend most of my time with tools like SQL, R, Excel, Tableau, Looker, and ArcGIS.
