Nico Evers is an international education expert with 3 decades of experience in international cooperation in (higher) education, working in Europe, the US, Africa and Latin America. Currently he works as an independent international education consultant. Prior to this, he worked as Director of Higher Education Services at the Council of International Schools (CIS), where he led all aspects of Higher Education membership globally as well as the CIS Global Citizenship, Intercultural Learning & IDEA team and portfolio. Before that, he worked for nine years as Director of International Academic Relations and Professor of Global Internships at EARTH University, Costa Rica. Nico is passionate about creating learning opportunities for students, faculty and staff that contribute to personal and professional growth, global engagement, global citizenship development, and a better world. He considers himself a strong relationship builder with the strategic leadership skills to establish successful international academic partnerships and lead the projects and programs that result from these collaborations. In his work, Nico draws on his experience as both a scholar and practitioner. He enjoys contributing to the international education field as a researcher, member of NAFSA´s trainer corps, mentor of students & colleagues, conference presenter, and peer reviewer of The Journal of Studies in International Education (JSIE), Frontiers journal and QUIP (the only objective, independent review system in education abroad based on the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad). He served as an elected member of the Council of Advisors of ISEP and as Vice President and co-founder of globalEdu, the Costa Rican Universities Association for International Education. He was a graduate researcher at the ACE Center for Internationalization and Global Engagement and a PhD candidate at the Center for Internationalization of Education, University of Groningen. He holds an MSc in Public Administration (International Relations) and started his career at the University of Amsterdam, where he held the positions of manager of international study programs, policy advisor for international affairs at central university administration level, interim director of the Dutch language institute and resident director of the CIEE Study Center in the Netherlands. He also worked at UNESCO-NL and at NUFFIC on capacity building projects at universities in Guatemala and Tanzania and on various studies, consultancies, training courses and international/EU projects.
