Did you know: a total investment in nature of $8.1 trillion is required between now and 2050? The challenge we face amidst the sustainability transformation is huge. We first have to decarbonise as much as possible but still funnel $8.1tn into nature. Carbon markets are one of our biggest chances to scale up the current funding, but the voluntary carbon market hasn’t been glorious up to this date: ❌ Scandals around overpromising projects ❌ risk of greenwashing claims ❌ No transparency around claims & quality But it doesn’t have to be this way… During a research project three years ago that led me on a road trip through Southern Africa, I interviewed farmers on what would incentivize them to switch to regenerative agriculture. Most farmers said carbon markets are a great tool, but they lack transparency, and often, the money ends up with intermediaries. From that point, I became obsessed with figuring out how to funnel money most efficiently to the most impactful carbon projects. This led to the founding of Senken two years ago, where we have the big, hairy, audacious goal of funneling €100b in capital to nature.
