Umang Kalra (a.k.a Theo) is the founder of Octaflyte ® and currently positioned as its CEO. He became an entrepreneur while studying in college to follow his passion for R&D, managing and scaling technical teams, and social innovation through technology. He has been involved with the UAV and Geospatial industry for 2 years now. In his startup, he has lead his team in the development of ByteGIS, a web platform built for UAV mappers for easy processing & analytics of UAV survey data at scale and providing collaborative tools for smoothening the GIS workflows. This product is in beta version and being used by enterprises from different countries.
Key activities performed by Umang Kalra in his startup:
1) Created a founding team and developed the prototype, which was pitched to Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Govt. of India, allowing the startup to receive pre-seed grant-in-aid.
2) Participated in S.O.L.V.E.D challenge by UN, resulting in Octaflyte ® being listed among the top 28 teams nationwide.
3) Developed the prototype of ByteGIS for Imagine Cup '22 which made the team Indian Prefinalist after clearing two challenging rounds.
4) Pitched at Start-A-Thon 3.0 and were declared the winner of the event.
5) Getting the startup selected for technical programs like AWS Activate, Microsoft Founder Hub & Xartup Fellowship to receive technical credits for product development.
6) Researched the market and identified the gaps in the existing applications. Guided the team to take the product from ideation to MVP.
7) Initiating the beta testing of their product ByteGIS and onboarding enterprises from India.
He is also an open source enthusiast and has actively contributed to a number of FOSS organizations. He has been been involved with Google Summer of Code both as a contributor and a mentor. He loves designing scalable systems on cloud, software architecture for enterprise applications, building distributed computing applications and product development.
