Close to 30 years as a professional technologist, during which I have gained extensive experience in new product development at leading edge companies. I have led effective and innovative software development organizations, establishing strong business relationships and rapidly understanding new and complex businesses. I have extensive experience leveraging operations and technology solutions resulting in revenue growth, decreased expenses and increased service levels. Years of professional consulting and leadership experience, open-source credibility, charisma and reputation make it easy for me to attract top-notch tech talent to my teams.
I am most proud of my role as CTO on the founding team of Andela, one of the biggest and most successful African startups in history, now operating in over 110 countries.
I am most famous as the author of best-selling Ruby on Rails books, a little less so as the original founder of Hashrocket, which during its heyday, was one of the worldʼs most admired web design & development shops. As its Founder & CEO, I grew Hashrocket to over 35 employees and almost $7M in revenues in 2010, before selling my stake in order to work on product-driven startups.

I’m currently Vice President of Marketing at EliseAI. Before joining EliseAI, I was Head of Go-to-Market and COO at Vizit, where I led Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success, owning P&L and global growth strategy. My role blends creative storytelling with operational rigor—something I’ve come to enjoy deeply after decades in multiple leadership roles.
Over the years, I’ve helped drive four $225M+ exits and an IPO, from startups to growth-stage tech firms to global enterprises. Whether building from the ground up or scaling at speed, my focus has always been consistent: drive growth, increase enterprise value, and create teams that love to win.
Prior to Vizit, I was CMO at Allego, a sales enablement leader, and before that, I led global marketing at Nielsen’s Marketing Effectiveness division (via the acquisition of Visual IQ). I’ve also held marketing exec roles at Brand Networks, Nasuni ($1.2B+ valuation, acquired by Vista), Crimson Hexagon (acquired for $450M), and others. I’ve seen firsthand what it takes to evolve a startup into a category leader, and what causes even good products to stall.
Earlier in my career, I cut my teeth on campaigns for HP, Motorola, and Texas Instruments at some of Boston’s top agencies. Along the way, I’ve learned that while tech evolves fast, the core challenge never changes: connecting people to value in ways that earn trust and drive action.
