Hi, I'm Val! Early-stage startups and small businesses need smart, scalable people systems — from hiring top talent to setting up foundational HR infrastructure. That’s where I come in: bringing strategic insight and a deeply human approach to build the structures that support long-term success. I help founders attract and retain great talent, implement efficient HR systems, and build people operations that scale alongside their business. My approach is rooted in the belief that people are the heart of every successful organization. My experience spans startups and small businesses where I’ve led talent acquisition, HR operations, and organizational strategy. I’ve served as a People & Talent Manager, Director of Operations, and Chief of Staff — giving me a well-rounded understanding of both business and human needs. I’ve built recruiting functions from the ground up, advised leadership on hiring strategy, implemented HR systems, and led teams through complex transitions. As a Top Rated Plus freelancer in the top 1% on Upwork, I’ve delivered over 150 successful projects for clients who value trusted, collaborative partnerships. On the individual side, I work with professionals from early career to C-level, offering resume writing, LinkedIn optimization, and interview coaching that gets results. I'm also a dog lover, gardener and music maker who's written thousands of songs, a few of which are good ;) Let’s connect if you need support with: ✅ Recruiting and hiring strategy ✅ HR infrastructure and systems ✅ People operations and organizational growth ✅ Resume updates and job search coaching

After over eight years managing and evaluating food security and rural health programs in East Africa for a variety of international programs and governmental organizations, including the Gates Foundation and USAID, Jenny founded Guidelight Strategies, a strategic consulting firm focused on the design, development, and implementation of strategic funding, policy, and program initiatives in the food/ag, environment, and conservation sectors. From 2019 - 2020, Jenny developed a national landscape analysis of the barriers for ranchers and farmers to transition to regenerative agriculture in the US, diving deeply into financial, supply chain, and policy barriers and opportunities. She published a 2020 report, in partnership with Patagonia, highlighting her work: Barriers for Farmers and Ranchers to Adopt Regenerative Agriculture Practices in the US: Identifying Key Levers and Opportunities for Funders.
