I'm an entrepreneur who is passionate about helping Canadians get end-of-life plans in place. I founded online estate planning company Willful.co with my husband Kevin, and over the last 7 years we've helped hundreds of thousands of Canadians create wills, power of attorney documents, and other estate planning documents. I consider myself to be an empathetic leader, and I lead the company according to our values, which include Empathy, Agility, and Accountability. These values show up in our culture, since we have an incredibly diverse, inclusive, and flexible workplace; and for our customers, knowing it's not always easy to discuss or think about death - a lot of my job is educating Canadians about the basics of wills and estate planning, since it's not something we learn about at the dinner table growing up. As CEO at Willful, I lead our vision & strategy, legal, investor relations, PR (my superpower!), and I contribute to our enterprise partnerships. I work closely with our SLT, which includes our amazing CRO Dave and COO Julia, and with our fully virtual team of about 20 product folks, engineers, marketers, and customer service reps. The most magical moments at Willful are when someone leaves a 5-star review or emails me to say "wow, that was way easier than I thought it would be!" Outside of Willful, I'm passionate about non-profit work & working with startups. I'm on the Board of Directors at Save the Children Canada, where I support their fundraising efforts for children in crisis globally. I'm also the former co-chair of the #Tech4SickKids initiative, where we raised millions tor SickKids hospital. I'm an advisor to startups Quill and Doormat, & I love helping early-stage founders navigate growing their business, and sharing my experiences with fundraising, product development, and marketing (and most importantly, helping them avoid my mistakes!). I'm also a professional public speaker with Speakers' Spotlight, and I've spoken at events across North America about entrepreneurship and marketing. I put my journalism degree to good use regularly as a parenting columnist for The Globe & Mail and Today's Parent, and I've written for and appeared in many publications including the Toronto Star and CTV News. I love being in front of a camera, especially if it helps spread Willful's message! Kevin and I are based in beautiful Prince Edward County, Ontario where we live with our two daughters. In my free time, I love to read (mostly fiction, typically about 50 books a year), travel (I've been to 6 continents), work out, and spend time with my family.
