I apply principles of fluid dynamics to design and fabricate microfluidics hardware for various biological applications. My training started in aerospace and continued in mechanical engineering. For my PhD, I worked alongside Dr. Mary Frame, a physiologist, and studied the dynamics of red blood cell flow in pre-capillary arteries using microchannels. As the lead microfluidics engineer at a 3D bio-printing company, I worked in a multidiciplinary team while developing the technology that will pave the way to 3D print transplantable human tissue. One of my favorite physicists, Pierre Gilles de Gennes, put it best: "The borders between great empires are often populated by the most interesting ethnic groups. Similarly, the interfaces between two forms of bulk matter are responsible for some of the most unexpected actions." And I add the borders between disciplines are where the most exhilarating projects lie.
