At Kaiser Permanente, I was not just a practicing psychiatrist, but an innovator too, spearheading a successful collaborative care model. As the first clinical hire and Head of Clinical Programs at Ginger.io (now Headspace Health), a leading telemental health startup, I significantly contributed to shaping its clinical approach and growth. This mix of clinical and technological innovation is also mirrored in my earlier venture, Lucira Technologies, where I invented the precursor to the Find My iPhone feature. In my private practice, Intuitive Psychiatry, I embody a holistic approach to mental health care, fusing traditional psychiatric interventions with Ayurvedic practices, yoga, and meditation to treat the whole person – the body, mind, and spirit. Now, as I venture further into unchartered territories, my focus is twofold. Firstly, I am raising capital for Zenara to support our mission of integrating technology, AI, and holistic methods to revolutionize mental health care. I’m a board-certified emergency physician and healthcare leader working at the intersection of health equity, patient experience, and population health. I currently serve as Medical Director of Health Equity and Director of Care Experience at Kaiser Permanente San Leandro, where I lead cross-functional initiatives to improve clinical quality, elevate patient experience, and embed equity into every layer of care delivery. I’m especially focused on leveraging population health strategies to close care gaps and tackle the systemic drivers of health disparities. I’ve written widely on healthcare justice — most notably in the New York Times, where my article on vaccine hesitancy sparked a regional campaign to rebuild trust and drive community engagement. I’m also a Clinical Assistant Professor and co-director of a medical student pipeline program that supports underrepresented future leaders in medicine. Whether I’m redesigning care metrics, launching community engagement campaigns, or applying process improvement methods to improve the quality of care, I’m guided by one mission: to heal people — and the systems that failed them.
