One of my passions is applying technology to improve the world around us. While technology is important, its impact on people is what is important to me. Correct applications of technology should free people to work on the important problems while the computers take care of the tasks that computers excel at. Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to apply technology in ways that are, in addition to being financially successful, are beneficial in meaningful ways. These include leading a team at a non-profit to provide patients access to their medical records at a time when this data was difficult or impossible for patients to access. Another team I lead was working with the human genomics team to process and extract gene sequencing data from huge raw files to be used in research into disease cause and prevention. Our team discovered ways of moving and processing the files effectively and at scale. Change is ever present and people have to adapt. To do this I have continued to learn both in a formal setting earning an MBA degree and AWS Associate Architect certificate as well as in informal settings to increase my understanding of technology and the world around us. Relationships are more important than technology. By spending the time to understand the needs of the clients and stakeholders, I am able to deliver solutions that meet what they need, not just what they asked for. I also feel it is important to give back and to pay it forward. None of us is successful without the hard work and support of others. This can be contributing to the projects we use, teaching software development at the university level or organizing trainings and learnings with the teams I work with. Another passion of mine is solving puzzles in processes and implementations. Working the Cloud, finding and implementing solutions while automating those solutions into repeatable processes. My currently role is focused on developer experience and providing tools to developers, tools that allow developers to spend more time solving the business problems they want to solve and spend less time doing the housekeeping.

Right now, my primary project is MWI, the marketing agency I started in 1999. I recently bought out my partners there after 10 years and find myself back in the driver seat.
