As a scientist I have studied the physics of the Sun, the Earth, and the solar system, atmospheric and solar neutrinos, cosmic rays, solar energetic particles, the radiation belts and most recently what is called "space weather". As a scientific programmer I have worked on modeling surface acoustic waves in stacks of thin films, a technique applied in the semiconductor manufacturing process at AMD and other companies. In the medical device industry I developed, maintained and improved algorithms for digital signal processing for nerve conduction measurements and diagnostic. I also developed models of nerve response for regional anesthesia. My software expertise includes the languages C++, Fortran, C#, Perl and lately Python and Java on both Windows and Linux platforms. Whenever possible I use the best software practices of object oriented design in implementing and developing new advanced numerical and statistical algorithms. Specialties: Scientific programming using advanced numerical methods, digital signal processing, statistics, computer modeling and algorithm development; elementary particle physics, physics of neutrino oscillations, acoustics, geophysics and astrophysics, software development in C++, C# using MFC, COM, .NET, on both Windows and Linux platforms, algorithm development and data processing in Matlab, multi-physics modeling using COMSOL, etc.

The primary theme of Dr. Fisher's research is the fundamental physics of turbulent flows, and its application to the two endpoints of stellar evolution -- star formation and supernovae -- using a combination of theoretical and computational techniques. While at LLNL, he developed the first quantitative theory of the distribution of stellar binary periods. At Chicago, Dr. Fisher led an international team of computational scientists and physicists in the development and analysis of the largest three-dimensional computer simulation of weakly-compressible fully-developed turbulence ever completed. Also at Chicago, Dr. Fisher was part of the team to carry out the first self-consistent computational simulation of the three-dimension detonation of a Type Ia supernova. Dr. Fisher is currently professor of physics at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. His scientific research addresses major issues in star formation, astrochemistry, and Type Ia supernovae using high-performance computing (HPC).
