I am a faculty and founding director of the Center for Applied Values and Ethics in Advancing Technologies at Crown College, University of California, Santa Cruz. With over 20 years of experience in bioethics, I am passionate about exploring and addressing the ethical, legal, and social implications of emerging technologies, such as regenerative nanomedicine, human-machine mergers, and astrobiology.
In addition to my academic role, I am also a clinical ethicist, a specialist reviewer for the DOD CDMRP, a lecturer at CSU Monterey Bay, and a consultant for various organizations and projects. I have published multiple articles and book chapters on topics related to bioethics, biotechnology, and the future. I hold a J.D. and an LL.M. in Bioethics, and I am a life fellow of the American Bar Foundation. My mission is to promote ethical awareness, critical thinking, and social responsibility in the development and application of new technologies.
As a Managing Advisor at Beyond Enterprizes, I leverage my extensive experience and expertise in the global technology landscape, applying cycles of accelerating technological change to the needs of high-growth organizations. I help clients navigate the opportunities and challenges of emerging technologies, such as blockchain, AI, and IoT, and design and implement effective strategies to achieve their goals and vision.
I am also a Faculty and Advisor at Singularity University, where I share my insights and knowledge on the coevolution of technology and society, and the impact of exponential change on various domains and industries. I am passionate about empowering and educating leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators to harness the potential of technology for positive and sustainable transformation. My motto is "What is the question that I should be asking?", and I use meta-analyses and meta-rules to explore the breadth and depth of complex and dynamic systems.
