Clients looking for a Fractional CFO call me to raise funds, establish financial and business strategy, install their financial function and position themselves for sale.
In full-time positions of President, CFO, and Treasurer, I led 2 bank acquisitions; established the financial function at technology ventures; raised debt and equity from angels, institutional investors and commercial banks for startup, growth and recapitalization funding in different market cycles.
In academia, I was the Director of Georgia State University’s Center for Entrepreneurship, taught future entrepreneurs at Univ. of South Florida’s Entrepreneurship Center, Univ. of Tampa, Georgia Tech and the College of the Bahamas.
With my diverse background in entrepreneurship, leadership, and academia, I complement CEO’s in implementing strategy that differentiates them in their space. Clients included Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Douglas County, GA, and numerous ventures.
Motivated by the dreams, trials, and courage of leaders, I started Nexxt Productions, Inc to produce broadcast-quality educational, inspiring, and entertaining films relevant to a multicultural world. My documentary, ‘Slavery to Legacy – The Alonzo Herndon Story’ broadcast on WABE tells the story of a former slave who built a business empire and was Atlanta’s first Black Millionaire. A prior production, ‘The Entrepreneur Nexxt Door’, broadcast on Georgia Public Broadcasting, exposed viewers to the myths and realities of entrepreneurship and was a result of going on a 'road trip' to interview 30 entrepreneurs for my book, 'R U The Nexxt Entrepreneur?'.
Invited speaking engagements included keynoting at entrepreneurship conferences, seminars for Black Enterprise Entrepreneurship, America's Mart, the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA), and multiple academic conferences.
I’ve been sought for interviews by The NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Atlanta Business Chronicle, the Christian Science Monitor, and other publications. Written work has included an online entrepreneurship column and numerous research-based academic articles.
Giving back is important. I’m a member of St. James Church, judged business plan competitions for the NBMBAA, Youth Entrepreneurs at Morehouse College, and the Future Business Leaders of America. I was the lead case competition coach for high school students in the Leaders of Tomorrow program, and a lead mentor for a venture at a business accelerator.
I received an MBA and a Ph.D. from Columbia Business School, as well as a BS Degree from MIT.
