I am the co-founder and COO of Finisterra Labs, where we're organising the world's structured data. More on that soon!
Before founding Finisterra Labs, I spent five years at Protocol Labs, building up Protocol Labs Research and contributing to many of our projects in research management, independent research, and academic collaborations. I co-led the ConsensusLab research team, which covered the research-to-production pipeline for consensus and scalability research, and led consortium development for the drand randomness beacon.
Before joining the start-up world, I worked as a patent examiner with the European Patent Office, where I focused on the technical and legal analysis of innovation in human-computer interaction and construction of computing devices. My interests cover a wide range of topics, including software engineering, engineering management, research, communications, security, embedded systems, automation, IP law, and marine technology. I am a licensed engineer in both Portugal and Andorra.
I’m a Senior Member of IEEE and a long-time volunteer. My roles spanned strategic planning, public policy, innovation, and more. Along the way, I have worked in multicultural teams, organised large events, and worked through the many challenges involved in the management of a 400,000-member global non-profit.
I hold BSc and MSc degrees in Network Engineering and a joint PhD from EPFL and the University of Lisbon for my research in Robotics, with a focus on the control of autonomous terrestrial and marine vehicles and on distributed sensing. I have been too fond of encyclopaedias and languages from an early age and revel in learning about all subjects. I am a keen traveller, having visited 50+ countries.
