I used to be an overwhelmed rural systems-level leader, feeling isolated and lacking the frameworks to help school leaders engage their communities meaningfully in transformation work. That frustration and isolation led me on a journey to discover what really works: not top-down mandates, but community-driven solutions that build collective power from the ground up. This journey inspired me to develop the POWER Leadership Framework and found The Liber Institute.
Now I help rural rural superintendents, principals, and other education leaders achieve the same transformation I experienced, moving from feeling overwhelmed and isolated to becoming confident facilitators of lasting change in their schools and communities. Through group coaching, team intensives, and community partnerships, leaders learn to unlock the wisdom that already exists in their communities and build the collective power needed for sustainable transformation.
My approach combines design thinking with community mobilization because real transformation happens when communities discover their own solutions, not when outsiders impose them. I've facilitated over 500 empathy conversations across rural America and partnered with teams from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Education Department to the Lake County Office (CA) of Education, helping leaders rewrite outdated policies, energize their communities, and alter students' life trajectories. The results speak for themselves but, more importantly, the communities now have the tools to lead for themselves.
