Christina Chelliah is a Triple-Qualified Multilingual Attorney (New York State, England and Malaysia). Subsequent to her admission to the Malaysian Bar, she practiced as a transactional attorney in a leading law firm in Kuala Lumpur. With a primary focus in M&A, Ms. Chelliah spearheaded numerous domestic and cross-border transactions spanning various industries. While practicing law, she simultaneously lectured on the LLB degree program for the University of London and other British universities.
She migrated to the US in the fall of 2013, and transitioned back into the legal profession in the US by first working as a foreign consultant attorney for various international law firms in Manhattan. After her admission to the New York Bar, she worked with plaintiff rights firms which provided her with a deeper understanding of the post-transactional landscape, specifically in regards to shareholder derivative matters and M&A litigation. In March 2022, she was also sworn in as a Special Master of the Supreme Court of New York.
She then transitioned into the in-house world by becoming the sole Counsel for a unicorn tech startup in the Web3 space, where she built legal and foundational structure from the ground up. Christina is currently working as a Corporate Counsel for TransPerfect, a global provider of translation, interpretation and digital technology services.
Christina is an active member of both the NYC Bar Association and the American Bar Association, where she serves on various Committees and also sings with the NYC Bar Chorus. She was appointed as a Fellow for the Class of 2024-26 for the Business Law Section of the ABA, and is the first Malaysian attorney to be appointed as a Fellow in the Fellowship’s 26-year history. She is also the Chair and founder of the Foreign Trained Attorneys Network in the ABA, as part of her vision in fostering a more inclusive legal profession which creates space for internationally trained lawyers. Christina, a former Miss Malaysia, exhibits poise and the unique ability to engage and interact with a variety of personalities due in part to experiences gained as a sought-after spokesmodel for world class brands, her role as Malaysian Ambassador to the University of London and her time as Project Manager for an international travel agency on 5th Avenue in New York City executing complex luxury destination events for high net-worth individuals. She is recognized for her cultural adaptability and legal agility across common law jurisdictions and strategic acumen in aligning legal functions with business objectives.
