Our study unpacks the experiences of marginalised users navigating the digitalisation of finance. Through a survey of 3,784 users, 18 interviews and 7 focus group discussions, our study’s findings highlight user experiences of risks and harms while accessing digital financial services, unpacking experiences specifically of persons with disabilities, transgender persons, gender and sexual minorities, elderly persons, women, regional language-first users, and persons facing digital and economic vulnerabilities.

I am a Senior Associate at Khaitan & Co, India's oldest full-service law firm in its market-leading Data Protection practice. I specialise in advising high profile clients in solving complex and challenging structuring issues with data, reconciling innovation with privacy concerns in India’s competitive digital economy. I represent some of the largest international as well as Indian businesses in becoming compliance with India's new data protection law, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, modeled on the EU General Data Protection Regulation. I was recently awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship by the Government of the United Kingdom to complete my Master of Law (LLM) at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), one of the world's top law schools. At LSE, I closely studied EU regulation on data protection and governance, digital markets and competition, as well as AI and other emerging technologies. Having an international perspective, I am able to anticipate India's approach to interpreting and implementing data governance norms. This makes my insights deeply valuable and sought after by forward looking businesses that seek to sustainably structure their data and AI governance norms. As one of India's youngest non-fiction authors, I having written 'What Privacy Means: Why It Matters and How We Can Protect It' published by Hachette, which recently featured in GQ Magazine's top 10 non-fiction. I am also a Gold Medalist in 'Information Technology Law' and 'Media Law' for securing the highest marks in these courses during my undergraduate education at NUJS, one of India's top law schools. Prior to LSE, as part of Trilegal's Technology, Media and Telecommunications Team, I advised the world's largest data-driven businesses on structuring complex data sharing and processing arrangements, strategising personal data breach and cyber security incident responses and vetting EU - India in-bound data transfers for leading outsourced service providers from a GDPR perspective. I specialise in carrying out end-to-end data protection gap assessments as well as ensureing business can make their products, services, tech and infrastructure compliance with data protection law.
