I currently live in Montclair NJ where I juggle all my creative endeavors including; I am the Architecture Teacher at Montclair High School. I am the Tech Director of the MHS School of Visual and Performing Arts Theater program overseeing all production design and build. I have been a director / teacher in the WRITTEN OUT LOUD Storytelling program. www.writtenoutloud.org I was the Director of Architectural Development for CAMP (www.camp.com) - an exciting family experiential retail store. I was an adjunct professor at Montclair State University teaching Comedy Writing. I also teach Improv and Sketch Comedy Writing at Montclair Film. I also perform with my improv group, Montclair Improv Comedy throughout the year. I am always writing something. I am always doodling. PLUS I have two kids who are headed to college next year. Whew, where did that time go? Working on a variety of projects... that seems to be my life. PREVIOUSLY ON "Gary Rudoren's Life"... I've been a slash for over 30 years juggling careers as a theater professional with a career as an architect For almost 20 years in Chicago I was a member of The Annoyance Theater and a principal of Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture. I've also taught and directed at The Second City in Chicago (as well as being SC's architect for 15 years). I taught comedy writing at Montclair State Univ. and improv at Montclair Film. ARCHITECT HAT As an architect, I am currently working on a retail experience project called CAMP. The flagship store opened in NYC in December of 2018. In the past, I have designed and managed the creation of hundreds of projects ranging from million square foot loft renovations to commercial spaces. I have a passion for designing theaters and production spaces. WRITER/DIRECTOR HAT... In May of 2007, McSweeney's published a book I co-authored with Eric Hoffman called COMEDY BY THE NUMBERS (www.comedybythenumbers.com). We also have a series of videos that are on www.youtube.com/comedybythenumbers (for CBTN) directed by Bob Odenkirk. Amongst other things I also directed Orthodox Jewish comedian Yisrael Campbell in a stand-up comedy special in Jerusalem called YISRAEL CAMPBELL: A REALLY LAPSED CATHOLIC I try to sleep a little but it has gotten tougher because as of Sept. 10th 2007, my family has doubled with twins. I also love being a silly dad. Specialties: I consider myself a very creative person in many areas - please see my babbling above.
