I'm a passionate and outgoing Recruiter and Programs Manager who connects people with transformative opportunities. My goal is to help people succeed and provide support by learning about their interests, goals, and skills so that I'm able to appropriately assess their needs. Having worked in Student and Academic Affairs afforded me the opportunity to learn about hiring trends and how to advise students from all majors on the flexible skillsets needed to be successful in the ever changing job market, while also understanding the hiring and onboarding process. Fun Fact about me is that I used to teach English at several elementary and middle schools in Japan. I lived in a rice farming village on top of a mountain! I studied abroad in Japan during my junior year in college and returned after graduate school to teach English in Japan because I wanted to connect more with my Japanese heritage. I went both times to Japan as a heritage seeker. My father is half Mexican and half Japanese and he was born in Japan, but grew up predominantly in the U.S. My mother is from Trinidad and Tobago and later in life came to the States. My parents imparted with me the value of education and a hard work ethic and having such a diverse background helped me connect with so many people and students from diverse backgrounds.

Today, I'm looking for my next opportunity in IoT or back-end software and services. For the last seven years I have guided the multi-access edge compute (MEC) projects of Intel Smart Edge, formerly started at Applied Computer Solutions (ACS) acquired in 2019. Intel Smart Edge runs on open-standard Intel-powered, bare-metal servers in a range of form factors from rugged base stations to blade servers in near-edge data centers. The platform creates an elastic service mesh running on self-healing Kubernetes clusters. Intel Smart Edge uses a core set of networking functions and security services, plus services for data planes, networking, and observability to deliver distributed edge computing, containerized applications, and virtual machines that can scale indefinitely. Intel Smart Edge provides distributed edge computing that can serve practically any workload with minimal latency. Networking complexity, container orchestration, and system management are abstracted beneath a user-friendly control plane so that nontechnical users can deploy and manage applications on their own. As the edge use-cases became more complex, and the maturity of our product became mainstream within Intel, encryption, authenticity, integrity and non-repudiation became inherent to the platform. We extensively used asymmetric keys and TLS mutual authentication for all aspects of communication. Implementation of Trusted Platform insured physical security of the machine. Prior to 2018, I started off as the lone Linux guy at iHerb.com, and by the time I departed to Smart Edge, the company was transformed from a Windows shop to a .Net Core-enabled operation. iHerb Development Operations was responsible for orchestration of infrastructure in Amazon Web Service regions around the globe, including Beijing, China, Moscow with NTT Communications, Shanghai with Aliyun Internet (Alibaba), DynDNS, Cloudflare, and Akamai. Working with our Network Operations Center (NOC), we were the second-level emergency response and participate in on-call rotation. We were the primary response for all development-related issues in our production environments. Some of the internal services we maintained included PRTG SNMP Monitoring, DataDog, CatchPoint, Site24x7, MySQL, Apache SOLR, Redis, Docker, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes, Octopus Deploy, and the initial deployment of these applications. Having a heavy development background, some of my contributions include internal PHP applications, reporting of our operations, training of our NOC staff, and participating in annual Payment Card Industry (PCI) scope reviews.
