I help business owners, VC, and PE investors analyze the marketing effectiveness and online presence for their businesses with EBIDTA potential of prospective acquisitions. After a couple decades in SEO, Paid, Social and all that goes with online, I’ve seen the good, bad and ugly–or downright fraudulent. Some businesses are true diamonds with high upsides and well-tuned workflows. Others have the glossiest of lipstick on the piggiest of lips. Let me wrestle with the difference so you don’t have to. The expectation is simple: you get the diamonds separated from the dirt on potential investments to Know Your Customer all the better and test the truth of what they tout in the top line. My career has gone where marketing, technology, and growth meet. I started as the fourth hire at a small SEO company that was later bought out. The execution was to try new ideas, get them done, and grow. (Still works.) The work to help businesses go digital in ways that match their values has taken me around the world. Sometimes that meant helping a law firm move to secure, cloud-based tools. Other times, I made global marketing plans for a real estate tech startup or used data to boost online strategies in tough markets. In each case, I looked for what fits a team’s culture, a brand’s strengths, and the market’s needs. I like steady improvement supported by honest data. For example, at one law firm, I built strong digital channels, easy-to-use dashboards, and CRM tools. These kept people busy during the pandemic, brought in revenue, and set the stage for more growth. At another company, a website redesign and adding international tools helped them grow online. In other projects, careful testing and fine-tuning turned good leads into loyal customers. I’m thankful for the trust from many kinds of organizations—from startups to major global brands. Working with boards, executives, and frontline teams showed me that clear talk, good listening, and hands-on work consistently brings results. Sharing these ideas as a speaker and business group member in Asia-Pacific taught me the power of curiosity in learning to keep strategies sharp. The research continues.
